Momiji Fujimiya
Momiji is a fifteen-year old schoolgirl at the beginning of the OAV series, living in bliss with no knowledge of her family secret. But then, after a scary first encounter with the mysterious Kusanagi, Momiji suddenly becomes aware of the Kushinada and Aragami and her role in the fate of Japan.
Momiji is a very friendly, sensitive and caring individual who loves helping others and making people happy. She is also very clumsy, and wears panties with animals on them that Kusanagi loves to tease her about (much to her chagrin). Despite his torments, however, Momiji has grown to care a lot about her plant-like protector and harbors feelings for him she is too shy to admit.

Mamoru Kusanagi
Kusanagi's parents were killed when he was a baby by the eight-headed Aragami Orochi-no-orochi, who sacrificed seven of its heads to Kusanagi, bestowing seven seeds to give him the strength and powers to protect the Kushinada, Kaede. After she perished, Kusanagi attempted to kill Momiji to free himself from bondage, but found he couldn't. So now he protects her like he did her twin sister.
Kusanagi is a strong, gruff, quiet man who only appears when there are Aragami around. The only time he shows any emotion is when he teases Momiji about her underwear. He won't admit it, but he cares about his charge and would give his life for her. Though at first he questioned their motives with Momiji, Kusanagi carries respect for the TAC and its leader, Kunikida.

Daetetsu Kunikida
Kunikida is the leader of the TAC, Kaede's adopted father and now Momiji's guardian. He was commissioned by the Prime Minister to keep tabs on aragami, and works hard to stop Aragami from over-running Japan. He feels compelled to do whatever he can to help his home country while protecting Momiji from a fate of sacrifice.
Kunikida can be serious while on a mission, but other times he is a comical man who loves to tell dumb jokes, many of which are not really funny. He also cares for Momiji as a daughter and respects and appreciates Kusanagi for all he's done to protect Kaede and Momiji and fight the Aragami.
Voiced by Akio Ohtsuka

Ryoko
Ryoko is Kunikida's right-hand woman at the TAC. She is a very professional agent and a very good shot with her gun. She is constantly fighting off advances from Sugishita and doing her utmost to help her teammates.
Ryoko is usually a serious woman who usually takes the time to laugh at her boss's jokes. She cares for Momiji and the rest of the team, and is very loyal. She also has feelings for her boss, Kunikida, that she is too shy to admit.

Asuza
Asuza is the scientist in the TAC and is always looking for new experiments to run and theories to test. She is married to her work and will stay up all night in the lab to finish a project.
Asuza was once married and has a son, Jun, who understands his mother's job and knows she is busy. Despite that, Asuza cares for her son very much and loves to spend time with him. She also cares for Momiji and the team, and is a very wise, kind person.

Koume
An ex-soldier in the military, Koume was transferred to the TAC against her will. However, she has proven to be very effective in attacking the Aragami with blunt force. Her knowledge of weaponry is vast, and she loves to blast things with rocket launchers and other big guns.
Koume has a no-nonsense, tough-girl personality and rarely shows her feminine side. Eventually she grows to like Momiji and the rest of the TAC, though she still has a hate-hate relationship with Kusanagi. She also grows feelings for the weak-bodied yet strong-minded Yaegashi.

Yaegashi
Yaegashi is an exceptionally smart man at the top of his class who was transferred to the TAC for his computer prowess. Though he doubted his contribution to the team at first, this young genius has proven over and over how vital he is to their fight against the Aragami.
Yaegashi is not very strong physically, and he can be very meek sometimes, but his heart is always in the right place. He grew feelings for Momiji which he was not afraid to admit, but backed down when he realized she loved Kusanagi. Though he and Koume didn't like each other at first, they both grow a bizarre mutual attraction.

Sakura
Sakura was orphaned when she was a little girl after her mother was swallowed up by an Aragami. She was brought to America where she learned to be a faith healer, then came back to Japan to fight Aragami. She clashed with members of the TAC at first, but later joined them and helped them.
Sakura has a very strong personality - she loves attention and always wants to have her way. She likes keeping all the Aragami to herself and wants to prove herself a stronger faith healer than her mother. She really dislikes Momiji for all the attention she gets, and Momiji dislikes her for the attention she gives Kusanagi. But in the end they learn to get along and fight together.

Kaede Kunikida
Kaede was born as the first twin to the Fujima family and was put in the care of Kunikida right after she was born. She grew up in Tokyo with Kunikida as her father and Kusanagi as her invisible and silent protector. Unfortunately she was killed by the Aragami, but came back as the Kushinada and future wife to Susano-oh.
Kaede was a sweet, kind, graceful, caring person who always had lots of friends and did well in school. She also knew about Kusanagi protecting her, and had feelings for him that he returned. Momiji was once jealous of her sister's good traits and bond with Kusanagi, but she soon learned to accept herself as who she was and not compare herself to her twin.

Murakumo
Murakumo is an Aragami with eight beads whose job it is not only to protect the Kushinada and Susano-oh, but also to rid the world of second-rate Aragami. He has an evil personality, taking pleasure in teasing and beating Kusanagi. He cares for nothing, and even seems to despise the unworthy Aragami he destroys.
